Ganesh Prashnavali
Answers checked number by number against older printed sources · Published 17 October 2026
The Ganesh Prashnavali is a square chart of 64 numbers, eight rows of eight. You say Ganesh ji’s mantra, hold one question in mind and touch a number. Each number has a fixed answer, most of them with a small remedy. Families turn to it before a new start: a shop, a job, an exam, a move.
Touch any number to ask your question.
- Sit facing the chart and remember Ganesh ji, the remover of obstacles.
- Say the mantra below eleven times. Some people write their question on paper first.
- Close your eyes and touch one of the 64 numbers with your right hand.
Mantra: ॐ गं गणपतये नमः (Om Gam Ganapataye Namah), say it 11 times

How does the Ganesh Prashnavali work?
The chart is a square of 64 cells in eight rows of eight, numbered 1 to 64. Every number has its own answer. You touch one number, without looking if you can, and read what is written against it. Nothing is added up or worked out: the number is the answer.
Most of the 64 answers lean towards a yes, since Ganesh ji is the god people ask before they begin, and many end with an upay. The remedies range widely: durva grass for Ganesh ji himself, water for a peepal tree, a Satyanarayan katha, food for a cow or for fish. A few answers say plainly that the work is not right for you, and those are worth taking seriously.
Why ask Ganesh ji before a new start?
Ganesh ji is worshipped first at every puja because he clears the way. A wedding card, a new account book on Diwali and a shop opening all begin with "Shri Ganeshaya Namah". Asking his prashnavali is the same instinct: before you sign or move, you ask the one who removes obstacles whether this path is open.
That is why the chart’s answers talk so much about business, travel, money and family. If the answer is good and you are ready to begin, pick a good hour for the start itself. The Abhijit Muhurat around midday and the shubh and labh choghadiya for your city are the usual choices.
Where does the Ganesh Prashnavali come from?
Like the Hanuman chart, the 64-number Ganesh chakra comes from household almanacs and devotional booklets rather than from a single scripture, and its author is not recorded. Its answers are fixed: the older sources we compared give the same meaning for each of the 64 numbers, even where the wording differs.
We matched our list against them number by number, then wrote each answer in our own words. Where the remedies differed in a small detail, such as which day to fast, we kept the version the sources agree on.
Which day is best for the Ganesh Prashnavali?
Wednesday is Ganesh ji’s weekday, and Chaturthi, the fourth day of each lunar fortnight, is his tithi. Ganesh Chaturthi in Bhadrapada is the biggest day of all. Asking in the morning after a bath, with a lamp lit before his picture, is the common practice.
Keep to one question at a time and do not ask the same thing twice in a day. If the answer gives a remedy, start it on the next Wednesday or on the day it names.
