Bestu Varas 2026
Gujarati New Year and Labh Pancham 2026 choghadiya

Gujarati New Year (Bestu Varas) is Tuesday 10 November 2026, the start of Vikram Samvat 2083, and Labh Pancham is Saturday 14 November. On New Year’s day the good choghadiya are Labh and Amrit, back to back from late morning to early afternoon (11:00 AM to 1:46 PM in Ahmedabad). On Labh Pancham the best morning choghadiya is Shubh (8:15 to 9:38 AM in Ahmedabad), with Labh and Amrit again in the afternoon. The table gives all three windows for 30 cities.
These are the two days many Gujarati traders choose by choghadiya: Bestu Varas for the first visit to the shop and the year’s first entry, Labh Pancham for reopening after the Diwali break. Govardhan Puja and Annakut fall on the same Tuesday as Bestu Varas.
What is the best choghadiya on Gujarati New Year 2026?
Bestu Varas falls on a Tuesday, and a Tuesday’s day choghadiya run Rog, Udveg, Chal, Labh, Amrit, Kaal, Shubh, Rog. Labh and Amrit, the fourth and fifth, sit together for nearly three hours around midday. That is the window to open the shop, write the first entry or make the year’s first sale.
Shubh is out on this day, and the reason is Rahu Kaal. Tuesday is one of the two weekdays on which Rahu Kaal and a good choghadiya are the same 80-odd minutes: on a Tuesday it is Shubh, the seventh. In Ahmedabad that is 3:10 to 4:33 PM. Tradition is clear that Rahu Kaal wins, so skip Shubh on 10 November. Our guide to Rahu Kaal rules explains why.
The morning Chal (9:36 to 11:00 AM in Ahmedabad) is acceptable for travel and the drive to the shop. Most panchangs count it good and this site marks it neutral.
Which choghadiya is good on Labh Pancham 2026?
Labh Pancham, Kartik Shukla Panchami, is on Saturday 14 November. Panchangs give it a morning (Pratah Kala) muhurat, the first third of the day: 6:52 to 10:33 AM in Ahmedabad. Saturday’s day choghadiya run Kaal, Shubh, Rog, Udveg, Chal, Labh, Amrit, Kaal, so inside that morning window Shubh is the good one. The Rog that follows it is also Saturday’s Rahu Kaal, so finish the puja and the first sale before Shubh ends.
If the morning does not work, the afternoon has Labh and then Amrit, back to back (1:46 to 4:32 PM in Ahmedabad). That is the choice for a shop that opens after lunch.

Why are the times different in Ahmedabad and Kolkata?
A choghadiya is one eighth of the daytime, so it starts from your city’s sunrise, not from a fixed clock time. On 10 November the Labh choghadiya starts at 9:56 AM in Kolkata and 11:06 AM in Rajkot, more than an hour apart. Gujarati families in Mumbai, Kolkata or Chennai should use their own city’s row, not a time sent from Ahmedabad.
What about Chopda Pujan and Sharda Puja?
Chopda Pujan, the puja of the new account books, is done on Diwali itself, 8 November, and the evening of that Sunday is unusually good: Shubh, Amrit and Chal follow sunset without a break. The times for every city are in our Dhanteras and Diwali 2026 choghadiya guide. Bestu Varas and Labh Pancham are then the days the books and the shop are actually opened for business.

Does the choghadiya matter if the shop opens anyway?
The whole of Labh Pancham is held auspicious for starting trade, so a shop that opens at its usual hour is not doing anything “wrong”. The choghadiya only picks the best hour inside an already good day. If you can choose, use the windows in the table and step outside Rahu Kaal; if you cannot, the day itself carries the blessing.
Our choghadiya hub explains the seven periods, and the guide to the best choghadiya for gold, a vehicle or a new business covers which one tradition picks for trade.
Times worked out on 20 October 2026 for each city’s coordinates. Dates are for New Delhi and were checked against a reference panchang; see how we calculate.
Today’s timings for this
This post describes what the panchang tradition says about a window; it is not personal advice. Times on the linked pages are computed for the city you choose.
